Public Health Week April 1-4, 2013
Research shows that investing in public health and prevention saves lives and saves money. The role of the Public Health Division is to improve the health of residents by working to create environments for people to be healthy. This week (April 1 – 4), is Public Health Week. As part of Public Health Week, we’d like to let you know how Clackamas County’s Public Health Division helps our community every day.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE NURSES
Approximately 2,000 confidential reports of infectious disease outbreaks are reported annually in Clackamas County, that’s five people falling ill every day from preventable diseases! In order to prevent further transmission, Communicable Disease Nurses investigate sources of disease, educate, provide medication, manage cases, and implement infection control measures.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Clackamas County has 105 highly trained health and medical professionals to respond during large-scale public health crises. By partnering with cities and first responders, we have the capability of providing emergency medication to all 380,000 County residents within 48 hours of an emergency disease outbreak.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Health inspectors inspect all 872 restaurants in Clackamas County, helping to ensure that we can eat in clean places without concern of getting sick from unsafe food handling practices.
